Slough Safeguarding Adults

About the Board

Safeguarding means protecting an adult’s right to live in safety, free from abuse and neglect. We work together to keep people in Slough safe and promote their well-being, whilst having regard to their wishes, feelings and beliefs in deciding any action.

Safeguarding duties apply to an adult who:

  • Has needs for care and support (whether or not the local authority is meeting any of those needs); and
  • Is experiencing, or is at risk of, abuse or neglect; and
  • As a result of those care and support needs, is unable to protect themselves from either abuse and neglect, or the risk of abuse and neglect.

The purpose of the Slough Safeguarding Adults Board (SSAB) is to safeguard adults with care and support needs by:

  • Assuring itself that local safeguarding arrangements are in place as defined by the Care Act 2014 and statutory guidance;
  • Assuring itself that safeguarding practice is person-centred and outcome-focused;
  • Working collaboratively to prevent abuse and neglect where possible;
  • Ensuring agencies and individuals give timely and proportionate responses when abuse or neglect have occurred; and
  • Assuring itself that safeguarding practice is continuously improving and enhancing the quality of life of adults in its area.

The Board has an Independent Chair, Nick Georgiou, who provides an independent perspective, challenge and support.The Board meets four times a year. 

The Board believes that "Safeguarding is everyone's responsibility". Its pledge to the people in Slough is that by working together the risk of abuse or harm can be reduced by raising awareness of safeguarding of adults.
